Searchable Tag Lists for Rapid Selection

Once you've set your timeframe for your query, and LGH file inspector has given you the list of available tags across the fileset, showing you dates with missing data, etc. you can pick the tags to query.  Using Shift+Click and Ctrl+Click, plus the matching search capability, you drag and drop the tags to the lower query window.  You can save your query for re-use and/or later editing.

Run Your Query & View Results

Click the Run Query button to generate a preview of your results, and then once you like those results you can send them to the supported formats, make adjustments to your settings, or use the advanced settings to setup your query for use as a scheduled job.

Exports from basic to sophisticated

send_grid_data_to-excelLGH File Inspector does a lot more than just export data and make Excel worksheets.

  • Create new or update existing worksheets
  • Specify the worksheet within a workbook
  • Update a specific worksheet within a specific workbook
  • Map data to specific cells in workbooks
  • Create or update workbook and
    • Show it after the query runs
    • Save and close it

CSV Universal Export Format

lgh-file-inspector-export-to-csv-v35-400wLGH File Inspector supports on-demand or scheduled/automated exports to the well known, universally compatible CSV format

  • Create new files
  • Append to existing CSV files
  • Include query begin date and time in the filename
  • Checkbox to support the AVEVA/Wonderware Historian FastLoad special CSV format

For example, you could automate a query to extract the previous hour’s worth of data and include the query beginning date and time in the filename. Each hour, the query would execute and export the results to a new CSV file with a unique filename that represents the time frame of the data it contains. File names would look like the following assuming a query base filename of C:\ InTouchData.CSV. The date format is configurable using a setting in the app config file covered in the LGH File Inspector documentation

C:\InTouchData 2016-08-16-00-00-00.csv
C:\InTouchData 2016-08-16-01-00-00.csv
C:\InTouchData 2016-08-16-02-00-00.csv
C:\InTouchData 2016-08-16-03-00-00.csv

  • Scheduled queries can embed date/timestamps in filename.
  • Optional dynamic date range update based on query run time
  • Launch automated queries from other applications
  • Create new Excel Workbooks and/or Worksheets automatically, including creating a new file on each run
  • Add Worksheets to or update existing Workbooks and Worksheets within a Workbook!
  • Create or append to CSV files
  • Generate AVEVA Historian FastLoad CSV files.

Organization for Multi-system/site or Multi-client applications

For users with multiple sets of LGH files or system integrators with multiple clients, the LGH File Places feature makes it easy to associate a friendly file path to a location for a set of LGH files.  Store as many file places as you want and edit them after creation. File Places also lets you store the timezone for those files.  Quickly access LGH File Places from the application status bar as shown here.

For best performance, especially with large file sets, it's best to work on a local copy but you can link to LGH file sets across the network, which we cover in our LGH file data from remote InTouch systems technical blog post

Handling small to large datasets that others cannot

  • scalability_graphUp to 1024 tags/columns in a single query
  • Up to approximately 15,000,000 data values in a single query
  • Leverage up to 4 CPU cores for fastest results such as 1.8 million data points in 150ms!
  • Performance is a function of your LGH file size, local drive speed, available memory, and CPU speed
  • Save any number of query jobs for re-use on-demand or in automated tasks
  • LGH File Places help manage large numbers of different file sets even in different time zones.
  • Use Multiple automated queries to generate regular Excel reports or CSV exports.
  • Multi-threaded high performance query execution

Manage LGH Files from Multiple Time Zones & Formats

  • Lgh-file-time-zone-settings-400wQuery in different time zones than the local machine without changing your machine's time settings!
  • Users are warned when LGH file sets they want to query are in a different time zone than their machine and given chance to update the time zone the application will use
  • When using saved LGH File Places, time zone settings are saved with the file location
  • LGH File Inspector time formatting options to address global local time formats
  • Great for integrators
  • Great for users with multiple regional sites

Handling the reality of data gaps

blackout_datesWe know that everything in the real world is not perfect, and LGH File Inspector can handle the inevitable source data gaps.

  • Blackout dates on the calendar show you where there are gaps in your LGH files so that you can either go back to the source and make sure you have all the files, or easily know where you will have gaps in the data in your query
  • Exclude blank rows option allows you to skip reporting for time periods with no data for any of the tags in your query.

View Raw Data, Display Aggregate Calculations

Starting with LGH File Inspector 3.5 and higher, users gain further insight into their data and can add value it on the fly.

  • Raw Data View - Pick a range, view the underlying data to see if you need to sample at a different rate
  • Aggregates - Get calculations on a range of data by just highlighting the data range

Operating System Support, System Requirements & InTouch Compatibility

  • LGH Files created by InTouch versions up to AVEVA InTouch 2023
  • Windows Desktop: Vista, 7 SP1, 8.x, 10, and 11 (x86 and x64)
  • Windows Server 2008 SP2 x86 & x64, 2008 R2 SP1 (x64)
  • Windows Server 2012 & 2012R2
  • Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022
  • .NET Framework 4.5 or higher
  • Multi-core processor with at least 2 Gb of RAM free and 60 Mb disk space. Large queries and datasets will benefit from faster processors and more free memory up to the Windows 32-bit application memory limit of 3 Gb. If you plan to run queries approaching the ~15 million data point limits of LGH File Inspector you will see short term memory usage exceeding 2 Gb, plan accordingly.
