OPC Data Logger - Configuration & Monitoring for New & Experienced Users

Rapid Configuration While Still Meeting Power User Needs

Whether you configure wizard driven, object oriented UI, or mass import, OPC Data Logger provides many options for rapid time to results on small and large projects.

All projects are made of up 4 parts:

  • Collectors - connections to your OPC servers
  • Presentation - how you want the data formatted
  • Storage - where you want the data stored
    • Combine Collectors & Presentation
  • Logging Tasks - combine the above 3 with items/tags to log and at what rates, triggers, etc.

Triggers and Writebacks are associated with 1 or more Storage and Logging tasks.

Projects are stored in a single file, for easy replication and portability to multiple systems.

Connection checks, test mode, and troubleshooting tools speed success.

Wizards Accelerate Configuration

Wizards are for new users with basic projects or experienced users wanting to add a new collector, presentation, storage or logging task.

Everything you build in a wizard is then editable through the direct treeview access, to give you the best of both worlds.

Wizards can also be set to not start on launch, for experienced users, but are still accessible from the treeview.

OPC Item Browsing

Whether you're using OPC DA Classic or OPC UA data sources, you can browse for OPC items provided your OPC server supports the browse interface, which most do.

  • Filter by name, data type, and access rights
  • Filter by branch name
  • Add single or multiple items in one step
  • Optionally browse for extended item attributes

Power Users Directly Edit Objects

Collectors, Presentation formats, Storage locations, Triggers, Writebacks and Logging Tasks can all be directly accessed from the project treeview with a single double-click.

Right click to add new instances of each type through the wizard.

Need to make multiple objects with nearly all the same settings? Right-click on any object and select "duplicate" (V4.x+) then just change what you need.

Import/Export for Large Applications

Import tags from CSV files or directly from OPC Servers

  • Datalogger exports from other projects or parts of a project
  • CSV exports from Software Toolbox TOP Server or Kepware KEPServer-EX
  • Browsing of OPC Server item tree and importing of all tags found

Whichever method you choose, OPC Data Logger Tags can be configured rapidly

Connection Testing Every Step of the Way

Rapid configuration requires more than just fill in the blank screens. It's a good idea to check things as you proceed.

We've done a lot of testing of our product over the years, with a decade of going to OPC Interoperability tests, where we test against other OPC servers, so we put the tools we use for that right into the product!

  • Check OPC Server Connections
  • Check tags for validity, right value, datatype
  • Check database connections
  • Automatic detection of supported OPC UA security modes

OPC UA Certificate Management

When using OPC UA security, the client, in this case OPC Data Logger, has to present a valid certificate to the OPC server, and the user has to do a one-time acceptance of the OPC servers' security certificate.

OPC Data Logger makes this easy right from the OPC UA connection screen. Certificates that OPC Data Logger has seen that are unknown will be listed and can be viewed and marked as trusted.  Users can also generate their own new certificates or import signed certificates.

Test Runs Empower Success

After doing your connection tests, instead of just launching your project and coming back later, OPC Data Logger gives you the ability to a test run of your configuration for up to 5 minutes, that you can stop at any time.

This lets you catch problems early, quickly test triggers or writebacks, check the event log for errors, and go back and further refine your project.

Advanced Project Settings

In keeping with the flexibility, rapid time-to-results theme of OPC Data Logger, users can adjust multiple configuration settings to their liking as shown here.  Attention to these details is another thing that sets OPC Data Logger apart

  • Enable Bulk Data Logging - on database storage projects, this will batch all values received in a single response from an OPC server into a single insert, up to the limits of your SQL database of course
  • Enable Store & Forward on Database Logging or set in memory buffer size
  • Configurable database keep alive interval to save the time of opening/closing/re-opening database connections
  • Event log storage and size
  • Disable Wizards at start
  • Disable requiring test run before starting project full run

Troubleshooting Tools

OPC Data Logger offers several tools for troubleshooting that were built into the product over the years of doing our own OPC interoperability and quality testing

  • Built in event log that can be exported to CSV or copied to clipboard for sharing with support
    • Configurable levels of verbosity/detail as directed by support
  • Windows Event Log, especially for Scheduled Triggers

Get Started Now

The trial software is the full product and can log to any supported file or database format with no tag count limits. Once the OPC Data Logger starts logging, it will stop after 2 hours. You can restart it but all logging will stop after 30 days.
