Startup & Testing Features Ease Troubleshooting & Successful Communications

Integrated Tools for Troubleshooting and Testing

TOP Server’s built-in startup and testing tools set it apart. Test the communications to your device using the free, included in all licenses OPC Quick Client and the Communications Protocol Diagnostics at the channel and device levels.  If you see data in the OPC Quick Client, then you know the TOP Server is working with your device, making resolving issues you see at the HMI/SCADA/MES/Historian level easier.

The Event Log shows detailed messages when you are having an issue and the Help files for each driver and the server in general covers what settings are, supported addressing syntax and the meanings of errors logged to the event log to point you in the right direction.

Built-in OPC Diagnostics can help when you are seeing issues related to your OPC client application connecting to the TOP Server. The flexible OPC interoperability options also overcome many OPC client compatibility issues. Add to these features the simulation abilities and system and statistics tags and you will see why so many companies have standardized on TOP Server for their industrial process connectivity.

System & Statistics Tags

The TOP Server exposes a number of System and Statistics tags that are very helpful for testing your system to check for problems before, during, and after startup. System tags are useful for both tweaking settings at runtime and for monitoring general server conditions. And statistics tags provide feedback regarding the performance of your channels and devices.

System & Statistics tags can be connected to from your HMI/SCADA/MES to put data right at the point of action.  Access them from your Historian for archiving, auditing, and historical issue troubleshooting.

Easy Testing with OPC Quick Client

The OPC Quick Client allows you to perform OPC DA read and write operations on the TOP Server at the Server, Group and Item level. This allows you to test out the functionality of the TOP Server prior to configuring your final HMI, SCADA, Historian, MES and other programs that will ultimately interface with the TOP Server.

Troubleshooting with Application Reports

The Application Report Utility installs with TOP Server and provides an easy-to-use method of generating pertinent information for both your TOP Server and overall PC system when troubleshooting problems with your TOP Server. This includes your current TOP Server configuration file, event log, licensing information and other useful details.

Simulation options for testing

TOP Server supports several simulation options that enable any client application to connect and "communicate" without generating bad quality, no values and a bunch of error messages if your field devices aren't currently available.

This allows verification that the client-side connection is as close to good as possible without delaying to wait on the network and/or devices.

OPC Communications Diagnostics

TOP Server OPC Diagnostics provide a real-time and historical view of OPC events that occur between any OPC UA, OPC DA or OPC HDA client and the TOP Server.

In the event that there is an issue between an OPC client and TOP Server, the Diagnostics Window can be opened to display the events that have occurred so you can trace the root cause of the issue.
