Runtime Changes and Status / Performance Monitoring from Your Clients

Statuses, config changes and performance at your fingertips

The TOP Server exposes a number of System and Statistics tags that can be very helpful for testing your system to check for problems before, during, and after startup.

TOP Server System Tags serve the functions of providing general error feedback to client applications, control over when a device is actively collecting data, and enabling configuration changes from client applications.

TOP Server Statistics Tags are used to provide feedback to client applications regarding the operation of the channel communications in the server including information about successes, failures, transmitted and received bytes, and more.

Monitor, control and make changes from your client

TOP Server system tags are internal tags that provide general error feedback to client applications, allow operational control when a device is actively collecting data, and allow a channel or device's standard properties to be changed by a client application when needed. The number of System tags available at the channel and device level depends on the specific driver being used.

You can see a list of available System tags here including details.  Detailed information is also available in the TOP Server help file that installs with TOP Server.

Detailed communications performance metrics from your client

TOP Server are special tags that measure communications metrics to provide feedback to client applications regarding the operation of the channel communications in the server.

Metrics such as the number of successful or failed reads and writes can be monitored to confirm the health and normal operations of communications with all of your devices.

You can see a list of available Statistics tags here including details.  Detailed information is also available in the TOP Server help file that installs with TOP Server.

Important Notes:

  • TOP Server statistics tags will only be available for a channel/device when communications diagnostics are enabled for a channel.
  • As a general rule, it is recommended to only enable communications diagnostics as needed for a specific channel (as opposed to permanently enabling communications diagnostics for all channels in your configuration), as incremental system resources are required for each channel with diagnostics enabled.
    • This is especially true on systems with limited resources (i.e. minimum levels of memory and/or processor capacity)
    • On systems with expanded resources (i.e. a higher allotment of memory and/or processor capacity), performance may not be adversely affected by extended communications diagnostics usage.

Get Started Now

The demo is the full product once licensed. Once a client application connects to the  TOP Server, the TOP Server runtime will operate for 2 hours at a time. At the end of the 2 hour demo period, the demo timer must be reset by restarting the TOP Server runtime service.
